Peanut’s diary : things my mother taught me

2009 October 26

I was browsing through ivillage and burst out laughing when I stumbled on this piece titled ‘things my mother taught me. There are many similar moments between Peanut and her absentminded mom that I am sure she would amusingly pen down some day.

Things my mother taught me

~by Peanut

My mother taught me SHARING: If you give me half of it, you can have M n Ms now.

My mother taught me BIRTH CONTROL: If we have a baby sister or brother then she/he will take all your toys, books and bed.

My mother taught me PATIENCE: Play with your bath toys some more. Let Mamma finish this blog post.

My mother taught me SELF-RELIANCE: If that German Shepherd Dog comes closer, I will run away.

My mother taught me IRONY: If you don’t stop crying, I will make you cry.

My mother taught me OPTIMISM: Hang by that monkey bar some more time and you will grow really tall.

My mother taught me PRIDE: You are lucky to have your Dad and me in your life. We are the best parents.

My mother taught me MIRACLE: Don’t climb on that table. If you fall from that and break your legs, don’t come running to me.

My mother taught me CLEANLINESS: If I see cookie crumbs on the bed, I will make you eat it.

My mother taught me CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY: If you bite nails, it will react in your tummy to produce a huge nail that will grow out of your tummy.

My mother taught me FASHION: It’s okay if this pants is shorter, you can call it capris now.

The things my mother taught me are cute! And about the fall colours, I wish we saw some of those in tropical countries too! I mean I have seen some paintings of these colours and the colours look almost unreal! Unreal but beautiful. Actually rust and dark reds and oranges are my favourite colours.

  6. 2009 October 26

bahut accha:)..specailly the pride and irony:)..and the fall colors are awesome..my daughter aslo keeps twelling mew everyday that they are having best of fall colors and just everywhere.

  13. 2009 October 26

ROFL :D I remember reading “things my mother taught me” as an email forward and I could not stop laughing and immediately forwarded it to my mom :) Your list is pretty impressive too. Esp liked the fashion advice. Will try it out on my daughter :D The best part is that each generation keeps adding to it. So not only do I try out my Mom’s homilies, which were so exhaustive and memorable that my very first blog post (http://gawdsowncountry.blogspot.com/2009/07/as-young-child-i-always-lived-in.html) was about it , I myself keep adding to the list.

  14. 2009 October 26

That’s a nice list of lessons learnt.. I loved this post, just as muchm as the other ones up here..BTW,the bottom lines were the summary of a pic??I am unable to view it clear.. :(

    Take care sol.. :)

    Love,

“If that German Shepherd Dog comes closer, I will run away.” bad very bad don :P
” If you don’t stop crying, I will make you cry.” this happened to my sister a lot :)
“Hang by that monkey bar some more time and you will grow really tall.” children should have a right to punish parents for fooling them like this ;)
” It’s okay if this pants is shorter, you can call it capris now” Shabash.

IRONY: If you don’t stop crying, I will make you cry.

PRIDE: You are lucky to have your Dad and me in your life. We are the best parents.

CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY: If you bite nails, it will react in your tummy to produce a huge nail that will grow out of your tummy. (I used to do it and now must go for a scanning of my tummy and they will ask me to come back after 6 weeks for a re-scanning – my experience with my eye scanning!).

FASHION: It’s okay if this pants is shorter, you can call it capris now. – BESTEST!

Thought of copy pasting the whole post…restricted myself and am laughing still…I would like to know her reaction to this post, when she reads after 10 years!

As kids we were told the same thing.

  41. 2009 October 26

ROFL! That was too good! I can’t stop laughing!

I am sure Poohi will be able to check quite a few of these points too :) I dread when she grows up and I can’t get away with all this :)

LOL

@Nita: Me too. I absolutely love these colors. My wedding saree was rust color. :)

@Renu: This is the best time to visit US.

@Nu: Come over with that mug of hot chocolate and book. I will fry some pakoras.

@Dreamer: I go further on that fashion advice. The capris also become shorts in Summer. That is the advantage of having girls. Anything is fashion. Publish your list. I am sure it will be lot of fun.

@Minal: Welcome here, Minal. Moms are the best…no doubt. ;) Pride!

@Shruti: Don’t worry. Your little one will make her own list some day. Ha..ha..ha..

@Deeps: Wait till that nail seed sprouts out of your tummy :D . Peanut recently started it and she does it more to irritate me. The more you say ‘No’, the more they do it. Recently I threw the nail cutter and offered my hand and asked her to bite my nails too. She stopped it immediately.

@Masood: Do come up with your list. It will be fun.

    @N Konovalova: Welcome here.

@Sandhya: Tell me that you have done some of the above too. :)

@Liveonimpulse: I am not going to show her this list and inspire her. Ha..ha..

@Rashmi: I meant this website. http://www.ivillage.com/ I have given the link on my post too.

@IHM: All mothers are the same. That crying thing was my mom’s motto. Ha..ha..ha.. Brother and I tease her a lot now. Monkey bar thing my Dad used to tell me the same. ‘Hang for some more time and you will grow tall’. I used to measure my height after coming home. Now Peanut does the same. Ha..ha..ha..

@Nancy: Now I am curious to read your list.

@Rakesh: Now Peanut thinks her mom is the best in everything. I know she is in for a shock in few years. Ha..ha..ha..

@Smi: Imagine when our kids read what we write about them.

@N : I won’t be surprised if she writes this one day.

@BK Chowla: You are asking me to dig my own grave. LOL

@V Sharma : Sharing thing happens almost daily in our home. This Friday is Halloween party at her school and I take my share of candies from her.

@Anju Gandhi: You are visiting US at the right time.

@Shilpa: It doesn’t get too cold here. Winter means rains. Snow may be once or twice.

    @Vig: Welcome here.

@DI: I think we were the same. Only difference is technology. Kids today know more about Computers and video games. Other than that the basic nature is same. All this for me is deja vu.

@Vimmuu: I am dreading the day when we meet tiny little Vimmuus with several ‘M’s and ‘U’s added to their names. LOL

@CA: If our kids ever meet, they will realize the truth about their parents.

    • 2009 October 27

/* All you parents and future parents…wait! till your little ones come up with a similar list. LOL*/

hope I won’t ask my kid to come with such list :P :P

Soli, your teachings are so unique & awesome
My growing up was different & a sort of dumb

me: Wisconsin fall is beautiful. Pictures never does justice but then it helps us reminisce good times.
