Women: My dil goes hmm…

2009 June 2
by Solilo

I know couple of them who will hop and scamper here after reading the title  . Sorry to disappoint you guys. I am not swinging the other way. This is just a pretense switcheroo.

Monika asked me to list 5 women who would appeal to me if I were a man.

Hmm…*switch* I am a man.. (I dread the terms now search engines will generate to direct people here)

1. Gayatri Devi & Jacqueline Kennedy: I have posted two names together because both women are one and the same in terms of class and beauty. The ever so ethereal Gayatri Devi has this charismatic aura. A true fashionista and a trendsetter, she made them pastel chiffons so chic. Same goes for Jackie O. Her pearls and them White gloves looks part of her. I don’t think there ever were two women so pristine as them. I know both are old choices but then I can switch into a man of their era. :)

2. Revathi: She is someone who I think is like me in lot of ways. She has this modern approach to most of the things in life and yet a traditional quality to her. So if I were a man then of course I would date someone like moi. ;) She makes films she believes in. One of the best female actors India has ever seen.

Revathi

3. Priyanka Gandhi: She is perfect in every way whether its her looks, pedigree, speech,  interviews or simply being a mom. She has got it all and yet so composed.

Priyanka 4

4. Mallika Sarabhai: A woman of conviction who knew what she was getting into but she went ahead anyways. An erudite lady. Which man can resist such a go-getter? She also excels in her field. She is a renowned dancer, film-maker, writer and a well-known social activist.

5. Meg Ryan: She has been my favorite actor ever since I can remember. I love her versatility, beautiful smile and her girl next door looks. I lost count of times I have watched When Harry met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle. Sad to see her ruined face now because of excess botox.

I tag: Most women bloggers I know are tagged so I am going to ask guys to play switcheroo. Now these guys have to turn into a woman and list 5 guys who would make them drool. I tag Hitchy, Kislay, Rakesh, OG, Vimal, Rahul, Dev and anyone who wants to take up this tag. The clause with this tag is that SRK and Farhan Akhtar are a must in the list.

What??? You too ??? What’s this with you girls..already all these women are so hard to get by us guys and now you girls are making it further complicated by you girls getting interested in them too.. hamara kya hoga… ;)
    Loved these posts…

me: Just for this consider yourself tagged. :)

    • 2009 June 2

Mam plzzzzzz.. tag me for any other meme but not this one!!! It’s impossible for me to imagine myself as a woman and think of men who would have been hot for me..
I mean common..even if I had the slightest clue that how a female brain works, I wouldnt have been such a loser in life… ;)

me: Come on Dev! be a sport.

Acha then you are excused. :)

  2. 2009 June 2

    :P hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha……..
(that is the longest laugh which I have had after reading the first para) ;)
hmm, good list….. :) I like kennedy, revathi and meg in this list :P
I fell in love with revathi after watching the film “mouna ragam”, when I was a kid…….
    :P

me: me too. Mani Ratnam’s best. I remember watching it when we went to Kerala during vacations and my aunt had to translate it for me as I couldn’t understand the dialogues still I loved it. My mom’s cousin had a huge crush on the guy.

men like women with character…. and this list has it…. ;)

    me: Do all men? :D

    • 2009 June 2

the guy tag is going to be a laugh riot…… :) I will wait for dhirubhai and vimal to do it first :P :P :P :P

me: You guys have to do this tag. Nahin to…

  3. 2009 June 2

Gayatri Devi is a must, of course, though I am not sure of Jackie O…doesn’t Michelle Obama have it in her to displace her? Or,as a man, it is the same old “fair and lovely” opium for you too?

me: Why did you say Gayatri Devi? Is it because of her color and pedigree? I think not.

See all of us have different taste. I don’t think Mrs. Obama is anywhere near Jackie O in style. She is trying though. Even otherwise this is a list of women I have been following for long. So there is a reason for me to like them. Who is Mrs. Obama? I don’t know anything about her other than the fact that she is the First lady. That alone is no criterion for me to add her to the list. It has nothing to do with skin color. It is about their personality and aura.

Revathi’s surprise choice makes me feel good, not only because of what she is but because I had a Tamilian girlfriend who looked a bit like her!

me: Revathi is not a surprise choice for me because she is my favorite actor. I think she is the best in entire Indian film industry. You had a gf who looked like her? WOW! :)

    BTW Revathi is a Keralite.

    • 2009 June 3

But Who was Jackie O? She too was just the first lady – her main accomplishment in life was her marriage to JFK…

me: The comparison I made is Mrs. Obama is a newbie and I don’t know much about her to put her in my list. Jackie O is a lady I have followed for long for her fashion and class so she is in my list. As simple as that.

I actually don’t understand why people went ga-ga over her – ok she had class but I think so does Mrs. Obama and the latter is educated and has worked…

For now Michelle Obama is just the first lady for me. I actually don’t understand why people go ga-ga over her either. May be in future when I make a list then she might feature. Who knows? ;)

Anyway, as you said people have different tastes – I respect that…

That’s the bottomline. People have different taste and criterion. I found the skin color comment extremely rude. If someone likes Michelle’s style then add her to the list. I have no problem.

I like Gayatri Devi too …had her pic on my earlier blog :)

me: You did. Didn’t you? I am not surprised. I was thinking that I have seen her on some blog. We actually discussed her too. Am I right?

me: Solilo, the friend’s, dil sure goes hmm….but this is a totally different list. :)

  7. 2009 June 2

Puhleseeee, we gotta drool over guys???
me: Only after you become a woman while writing this post.

Ok i’ll put up the list and then you see ;-) :D

me: It should be a list of men and don’t include Rajpal Yadav..please.

  8. 2009 June 2

Oh I like this post. :) I might find these ladies appealing too! And I can see Farhan Akhtar, but SRK?? :P

me: Priyank, take it up if you like but 5 men. :)

  9. 2009 June 2

Nice list esp Priyanka Gandhi !

me: I was looking for your blog link. Now got it :)

  10. 2009 June 2

Hey ! Not fair . Making me play switcheroo . What will all the ladies who drool over me think ? ;)

me: Ha..ha..ha.. make it a password protected post so that only bloggers can read.

  11. 2009 June 2

becoming a woman and drooling for guys ??? i would still prefer listing woman… having said that… I guess I gotta be game… !

    so will do so… !

me: That’s the spirit. Don’t forget to read the clause in the last para ;)

i love the first 3 for sure !!! I used to love revathy… ! there is something about her which I have never been able to figure out but I liked her a lot… since I saw her in that movie Anjali !

me: Oh yeah! Anjali too. Another Mani Ratnam classic.

    • 2009 June 2

No way… Shahrukh I cant stand ! and Farhan… well i like him as director… not as an actor.. he has a good sense of humour though !! but again not on the list of the top 5

me: Ha..ha..ha.. that was a way to irk you guys.

  12. 2009 June 2

nice list…. i love the first, second and final choices. they r my favourites. revathi is ever green. i dont think i need to even begin about gayatri devi’s and jacqueline kennedy’s grace. and meg ryan was an absolute cutie in those two films. priyanka gandhi has it all put together… but somehow there’s something abt her that makes me wary.

the best part of this post??
can’t wait to see the guys’ list!!!

    me: Ha..ha.. me too.
    ROFL!!! :D

  13. 2009 June 2

Nice list Solilo.. Revathi is my favorite too. For some unknown reason i admire her not just as an actor but a person also.

    me: Same here.

Same is the case with actor Shobhana.

I first came to know about Mallika Sarabhai through your blog and from then on i admire her for what ever she did.

    me: :)

  14. 2009 June 2

Hey, Solilo, Revathy is my all time favourite TOO, and am going to do your tag…it makes me think dirty!(lIKE A GUY!)Loved your list.

me: Ha..ha.. Sindhu, waiting for your list.

  15. 2009 June 2

    Lovely list!! :D
I agree with all the women on your list and Monika’s as well! :P

    I’m waiting for Hitchy’s list though!!! ;)

me: All of us are. :)

  16. 2009 June 2

Lovely list Solilo :) Among all of the above my most fav is Meg Ryan. I always wonder how Dennis Quaid could let her go!

me: DQ had to because she was cheating on him with Russell Crowe while filming ‘Proof of Life’.

Now how about a Top 5 guy list ;)

me: Check this. Hop over to Nancy’s (Reflections) for a detailed list.

BTW guys are making the guy list. That’s the deal here.

    • 2009 June 5

LOL….I didnt even know about the Meg Ryan affair! Have to start reading gossip columns ;)

me: or just ask me. :D

  17. 2009 June 3

i like that list… especially like those on spot 1… like ‘em both a lot..
u know wat i think of when i see meg ryan? a pixie.. (no,dnt go the crafty way…im not talking of the one who blogs..) she is just looks so pixie-like to me!

    me: Pixy-ish. That’s cute.

waise i wud never have thot of priyanka gandhi…. mite have thot of priya dutt tho..

    me: List yours, Mandu.

    • 2009 June 3

heh! You compared me to Meg Ryan or Meg Ryan to me?!!! :D
Either way, “we” will take it as a compliment!!!

Din chak din chak din chak!

*dances her way out before stones get thrown!!*

me: Ha..ha..ha.. now that is so pixy-ish.

    • 2009 June 3

don’t go the “crafty” way??? now did mandy mean it as a proper noun or adjective???? :|

      me: Ha..ha..ha…. ask Mandu.

  18. 2009 June 3

First of all I loved the way you tagged the guys! I remember you had done the same thing earlier with the motherhood tag :)

me: :) But be prepared for the worst kind of lists ever. I don’t trust these people esp. OG and Rakesh.

Meg Ryan – with shorter hair is a big fav of mine. Not sure if I would have had a crush on her if I was a man, but I like her as a woman very much :)

me: I once had a Meg Ryan style haircut (short one). Total failure. :|

Mallika Sarabhai is another woman I really admire!! Both are good looking too!

  19. 2009 June 3

    An extremely different list….

These are all brains women… like it :)

    me: :)

  20. 2009 June 3

Solilo, I like all of them, esp. Revathy. No one would have dared to make a movie like ‘Phir Milenge’ except her. Her ‘Mouna Raagam’, ‘Devar Magan’, ‘marupadiyum’… the list goes a long way…are my favourites. She does a lot of social work also.

me: I need to get hold of Mauna Raagam again. Now that I understand the language would love to see it again. Masterpiece.

I have read the autobiography of Gayatri Devi and she is a typical queen! I admire Jaqueline for the way she carried herself with all the problems in her life. Priyanka too is my favourite. She is a down to earth person. I have seen Meg Ryan’s movies and I love her eyes! I know that Mallika Sarabhai is a dancer and social worker too.

    Very interesting topic.

  21. 2009 June 3

My dil goes hmmm hmmm hmmmm for Revathi. She is my fav, saw mouna ragaam some 15 times and still she is the best – for her composure, personality – i even like her directive ventures.

Even I am a grt fan of Meg Ryan and have seen WHMS a lot of times – she is too good in it.

me: I have lost count. I now know each scene and dialogue from WHMS.

  22. 2009 June 3

Great pick! Meg Ryan’s my favorite Hollywood actor too…waiting to see what the men say ;)
    Corinne

me: Mine too but too bad she ruined her face.

  23. 2009 June 3

Lovely List, Solilo! I especially like Revathi in your list! I really feel that she just has not got her due :(

me: Smi, our industry is male dominated so comparatively she did much better. But as you say I wish her talent was utilized more.

  24. 2009 June 3

nice list solilo, even i admire revathi and i know about vikram sarabhai but got to know abt mallika from ur post :) and now i am regular reader of her blog :)

Waiting to read all the guys post on the tag ;)

    me: Me too :D

  25. 2009 June 3

No ‘Mallika’ Sherawat and ‘Priyanka’ Chopra ??? :D

Whaaaaaaaa???? Me???? This tag??? OMG !!! and SRK and Farhan????

You seriously hate me, dont you ? :(

    me: Of course :D

Coool tag Solilo…..or rather I must say great topic :-D

I can just imagine the guys hunched over their laptops. Will be interesting to read, what say ;-) ?????

    me: anxiously waiting

  27. 2009 June 3

I haven’t read all the comments as yet but I don’t think Mallika Sarabhai will be on top of the list for most guys…She’s too opinionated and independent for their liking…

me: You got that right. :)

  28. 2009 June 3

oh great list.. i always knew your choices will be more ‘Brainy’ than the Beauty.. though all these women are Beautiful they are more liked for their talents and grace and poise and i could go on….

    me: Thank you Oorja.

  29. 2009 June 3

Loved every lady on your list. Nice tag!

me: Take it up Shilpa, if you aren’t tagged yet.

  30. 2009 June 3

Meg Ryan is so cute!! But I find it hard to believe any guy will have crush on PG and MS!!

me: MS for obvious reasons but I know couple of them who considers PG a hottie.

  31. 2009 June 3

    I did it !

    me: That’s fast. Coming over.

  32. 2009 June 3

Except revathy and mallika sarabhai I didn’t know any other women mentioned… but from those two I could see all will be creative and independent… :-)

    me: Kanagu, Priyanka Gandhi?

  33. 2009 June 3

I love Revathy!!! i loved her film Killakam – the original of muskurahat! ….. and i can never forget her dialogue delivery “enki veshakunnoooooo. koranga….de kozhi de manam”

me: I know. It was hilarious. koranga Ha..ha..ha..ha..
    :D :D :D

i loved meg ryan in when harry met sally!!! u r right about face…saw her in “my mom’s new boyfriend”….sigh….my heart broke…

    me: :(

    loved ur list solilo!!! :)

  34. 2009 June 3

The number one choice is absolutely what I would choose too. I would, however, add Kajol to the list too-again just cos she is very much like me. As you say, if i were a man, I would surely date me.

me: :) Mampi, do make your list. I would love to read it and the reasons.

  35. 2009 June 3

    LoL! Interesting list on women.
The title was interesting BUT didn’t attract me here. ;-)

me: Actually I meant the guys. :D

Although it’s funny how u tagged the guys. I’m interested what hitchy, OG and Vimmuuu come up with. ;-) :-P

me: Check Kislay’s list. He is done with the tag.

  36. 2009 June 3

I like Rewathy for the kind of films she makes.

Otherwise I like Michelle Obama, Opra Winfrey and admire Indira gandhi.

    me: Nice list. :)

  37. 2009 June 3

Tag half done. Ohhh, you will understand. LOL.

    http://vimalsparadise.blogspot.com/2009/06/when-i-underwent-sex-change-part-1.html

me: I am already laughing at the title in the link. Coming over.

  38. 2009 June 3

That is a sweet BD message :P for “hariday” :P

  39. 2009 June 3

“Woman of Substance ” or “Essence of Being A Woman” …….. Call is yours :-)

me: :) So when are you doing it?

  40. 2009 June 4

How could I forget Priyanka Gandhi in my list?? (would have to go back and revise my list now!!)..
    Great choice, btw!

    me: :)

  41. 2009 June 4

loved your list… I fell in love with revathi when I saw Anjali in Tamil, didn’t matter that I couldn’t understand the language….

me: First Mauna Raagam then Anjali. Both Mani Ratnam’s best and Revathi’s too.

  42. 2009 June 4

nice list solilo. especially priyanka gandhi. i just looovveeedddd the picture of hers that you have put up here. i’ll take up this tag. should be fun.

me: I like her esp. for that. :)

Good choice,Sols.Gayatri Devi & Jackie Kennedy sure are timeless. And their conduct impeccable.I love Revathi too.She was brilliant in Mounaraagam, wasnt she?’One of the best female actors India has ever seen.’…totally!
And yes yes yes to Priyanka Gandhi & Mallika Sarabhai:)

me: So most choices tally. :)

  44. 2009 June 4

I love your list, Sol. I have been in love with Mallika Sarabhai ever since she appeared in the Mile Sur Mera Tumhara song – and then was bowled over by her presence and performance in Peter Brook’s mahabharatha. And I love Meg Ryan as well – in college my friends used to call me Meg Ryan because they said I resembled her somewhat and was bubbly like her! Nothing like friends to make you feel on top of the world!

me: You know someone mentioned that ‘Mile sur’ thing after my post on Ms. Sarabhai and then I went and looked for it. I had forgotten about it.

You look like Meg Ryan. True friends always make us happy :D . You know around 6 years back I went and got exact copy of Meg Ryan’s short haircut. Oh boy! it was a nightmare. It didn’t suit me at all and only way to escape it was to make fun of myself at the parties. Before anyone could say something, I poked fun at myself and laughed. The pictures taken that time still gives me creeps. I still experiment with my hair though. :D

    • 2009 June 4

Obviously, I don’t look like Meg Ryan coz if I did, I’d be in films prolly! :) lol I did have a short hir style like her though. But yes..frinds always make one feel good about oneself.

      me: Ha..ha..ha..

  45. 2009 June 4

And forgot to mention, I think Revathi is one of those rare actresses who can live a screen role. I loved her in MaunaRagam and Anjali, and more recently, in Dhoop. She’s a great director, too. I am a huge fan.

me: Oh yeah! forgot Dhoop. I cried buckets watching it.

  46. 2009 June 4

my fav is revathy n mallika sarabhai… how come no Rekha ? what about indira gandhi ?am curious :d

me: If I could stretch the list. :)

  47. 2009 June 4

I like Meg Ryan and Revathi too.
Have you seen French Kiss and You’ve got mail? Meg was good in both of them.

me: I have watched almost all movies of Ryan’s. Mostly with Tom Hanks because he is my favorite. In recent times though I saddened by her excessive botoxed face.

I first saw Revathi in a Hindi movie called Muskurahat. Seen that one?

me: Not that but its original ‘Kilukkam’. If you like regional cinema then I would suggest Mauna Raagam and Marupadiyum.

  48. 2009 June 4

Meg Ryan is my all time fav too :-) she is just too good!!!

PS I had read Mallika Sarabhai as Sherawat and had almost died of heart attack :D

me: Ha..ha..ha… Smita, if anyone could think of Sherawat it was you. Actually to think of it more than Sarabhai, Sherawat suits ‘if I were a man I would drool over’ list.

  49. 2009 June 4

Interesting. Makes me think. Whom would I want to date if I were a man? Three guesses? Me.

me: Ha…ha.. ha.. Kiran, Of course you will. Did you read my lines on No: 2? I said the same thing. :)

    Har har har.
Seriously though, would really have to think this list through…

me: Come up with a list. Would love to read it.

  51. 2009 June 4

My first response to your selection – are you still wearing the hat of a women in choosing your list. Meaning you didnt think like a man?

me: LOL. I tried but I guess my soul remained that of a woman.

Meg Ryan is a charming lady…

  52. 2009 June 5

    Revathi here too…

    me: Where else? :)

    Nice choices :)

    Cheers!!!

ohhh totally awesome tag. me likes. me will do sometime in the very far future. me like your number 1 and number 5 very much too.

Revathi is one of the most versatile actresses that Tamil cinema has produced. She is respected, in spite of her being in the film industry. One person I would compare on the same league is Suhasini. And Mani Rathnam is a gem. We grew up watching his movies, but sadly there is none today to recreate that magic. Anjali is my all time favorite movies.

me: If I could stretch the list then Suhasini sure would have found a place. I am glad to see Shobhana, Suhasini and Nadia Moidu in other lists.

I will list my favourite five men and women (based on looks only) here:

Men: Kamal Hassan, Ajit Kumar (Tamil films), Aamir Khan, Dharmendra, Tom Cruise.
Women: Meera Jasmine (Tamil/Malayalam films), Ileana (Telugu), Archana Gupta (Telugu/ Kannada), Priya Gill (Hindi), Katrina Kaif (Hindi) and let me add just one more : Sharon Stone (Just now saw her in Dhiren’s blog, I mean for the first time) :-)

me: You did the tag here. :)
